There's a moment every serious DJ knows — you're playing a track that sounds massive on your headphones at home, and then it hits the club system and something's off. A little flat. A little lifeless. You adjust the EQ, nudge the gain, but the feeling doesn't come back. Most DJs blame the system. Veteran engineers blame the source. And nine times out of ten, the answer lives inside a chip you've probably never thought about: the digital-to-analog converter (DAC).

What a DAC Actually Does — And Why It's Everywhere

A digital-to-analog converter does exactly what its name implies: it translates the binary language of digital audio files into the analog electrical signals that your speakers can actually reproduce as sound.   • Understand your gain staging. A DAC operating near its ceiling will introduce clipping and distortion at the conversion stage, before the signal even hits an amplifier. Keep your gain structure clean — hitting unity gain on the CDJ channel, managing the master output level on the DJM-V10 responsibly — and your DAC will reward you with headroom and dynamics.
